Resources for Hunt at Iowa: The Brewer-Leigh Hunt Collection is a comprehensive gathering of books and manuscripts by and about English writer James Henry Leigh Hunt (). The collection is nearly complete in first and subsequent editions of books by Hunt.
The Brewer-Leigh Hunt Collection at Iowa. The University of Iowa Libraries possesses the most complete Leigh Hunt collection in the world.
The core of the collection was originally assembled by Luther Brewer, an Iowa native who owned and operated The Torch Press in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. These materials are housed in boxes that are stored with the Leigh Hunt Collection and assigned the call number: Hunt HDpo. Brooks is described below. Leigh Hunt () was a British Romantic writer and a contemporary of Byron, Shelley, and Keats; his activities and influence also extended well into the Victorian period.
In addition to being one of the most outspoken and influential journalists in the age of the French Revolution, Hunt was a prolific prose writer and an innovative poet. This past spring was a good season for acquisitions in Special Collections, Leigh Hunt material not least among them.
Not only did we pick up Percy Shelley’s personal copy of Hunt’s Feast of the Poets—a spectacular association copy, as Hunt and Shelley were remarkably close friends—but we acquired four Leigh Hunt manuscripts.
